They call it an “uprising”, a “global strike” and an “invitation to dance”. The One Billion Rising Movement is a creative and participatory way to show your dissent of the status quo.

The One Billion Rising campaign was founded by Eve Ensler, the Tony Award winning author of The Vagina Monologues to “empower women and girls and break the cycle of violence.” Ensler has challenged women across the globe to creative action on February 14th. Flash mobs, dance parties, theatrical events, marches, protests, strikes are all welcome. Anything that will call attention to the undeniable prevalence of daily violence against women.

Through the One Billion Rising website you can choose to join a rising in your community or start one of your own. On the connect page of the website there is a global map filled with pink “V” markers indicating women with “V-Day” plans. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for a new and empowering take on Valentine’s Day!
