The California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) supports California Senate Bill 406 authored by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson.
SB 406 will extend job-protected leave to more California workers when they need to take time off to care for a seriously ill family member or bond with a new child. SB 406 will lower the employer threshold under the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) and extend CFRA protections to align with the recently expanded Paid Family Leave Program to workers who care for seriously ill adult children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren and parents-in-law.
Current law does not take into account for the diversity of California households and the importance of caregiving by extended family members.
