Assembly Bill 1443: Harassment: Unpaid Interns

The California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) supports California State Assembly Bill 1443 authored by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner.

AB 1443 will extend basic workplace protections against sex discrimination and harassment to unpaid interns.

CWLC supports AB 1443 because currently, neither federal nor state laws explicitly provide unpaid interns with basic workplace protections, including protection from sexual harassment or other forms of discrimination. CWLC believes all workers, whether paid or not, deserve these basic protections. Employers owe a safe, harassment-free, and fair workplace to all workers, including unpaid interns.

AB 1443 WAS  SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR ON 9/09/14.
