CWLC reaches agreement in Title IX athletics case at Sierra Vista High School

The California Women’s Law Center, with co-counsel Legal Aid at Work and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, reached agreement in a Title IX athletics dispute involving female athletes at Sierra Vista High School in the Baldwin Park Unified School District. Girls’ volleyball players were forced to practice in an unsafe space in the gym while boys’ teams were given practice priority. In addition, the girls’ softball team played on a neglected field while the boys’ baseball fields were well-kept and maintained.

Under the agreement, the School District must make numerous changes at Sierra Vista to ensure female athletes are treated equitably, including equal access to practice and competition facilities, quality of equipment and uniforms and opportunities to participate.

With your support, CWLC is able to continue our effort to ensure girls in California have equal opportunities in school and on the playing field.
