Senate Bill 224: Elderly Parole Program

The California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) and the California Commission on Aging, support California Senate Bill 224 authored by Senator Carol Liu and Senator Mark Leno.

SB 224 lowers the eligibility requirements for parole consideration for elderly prisoners, which would decrease the burden of incarceration on taxpayers and allow low-risk, senior prisoners to reunite with their families.

SB 224 will help lower these state costs by expanding the existing Elderly Parole Program to low-risk, incarcerated people age 50 years and older who have served at least 15 years of their sentence.

SB 224 WAS INTRODUCED 2/13/15

STATUS: INACTIVE ON REQUEST OF SENATOR LUI 6/4/15
