Training: The Future of Title IX

Title IX, the federal law enacted in 1972, was passed to protect students from gender-based discrimination in educational settings.

However, in 2017, with the appointment of Betsy DeVos as U.S. Secretary of Education by former President Donald Trump, multiple changes were made to the regulations related to campus sexual assault and harassment which effectively limited Title IX’s intended application to ensure and effectuate gender equity on campuses.

With our partners at Equal Rights Advocates, CWLC is hosting a legal training analyzing the changes made to Title IX by the Trump administration as well as potential considerations to move toward more transparency, support, and fairness in addressing sexual assault on American college campuses.

The presenters will summarize how Title IX has changed and discuss what modifications the Biden administration might make to the regulations. We will also review California’s gender discrimination laws.
